This is impossible

A psychiatrist met a friend and exclaimed, “I heard you died.”

“But you see I’m alive ,” smiled the friend.

“This is impossible,” said the psychiatrist. “The man who told me is much more reliable than you.”

The Missed Blessings

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" He then stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and a wonderful family, but realizing his father was very old, he thought perhaps he should go to see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make the arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he was reading, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words… "PAID IN FULL".

How many times do we miss blessings because they are not packaged as we expected? Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.

Sometimes we don't realize the good fortune we have or we could have because we expect "the packaging" to be different. What may appear as bad fortune may in fact be the door that is just waiting to be opened.

The lawyer looked somewhat confused. "How do you start a flood?" he asked.

    1. Most of it doesn’t matter. So much of what I got excited about, anxious about, or wasted my time and energy on, turned out not to matter. There are only a few things that truly count for a happy life. I wish I had known to concentrate on those and ignore the rest.

    2. The greatest source of misery and hatred in this world is clinging to past hurts.Look at all the terrorists and militant groups that hark back to some event long gone, or base their justification for killing on claims of some supposed historical right to a bit of land, or redress for a wrong done hundreds of years ago.

    3. Waiting to do something until you can be sure of doing it exactly right means waiting for ever. One of the greatest advantages anyone can have is the willingness to make a fool of themselves publicly and often. There’s no better way to learn and develop. Heck, it’s fun too.

4.Following the latest fashion, in work or in life, is spiritual and intellectual suicide. You can be a cheap imitation of the ideal of the moment; or you can be a unique individual. The choice is yours. Religion isn’t the opiate of the masses, fashion is.

    5. If people complain that you’re too fond of going your own way and aren’t fitting in, you must be on the right track.Who wants to live life as a herd animal? The guys in power don’t want you to fit in for your own sake; they want you to stop causing them problems and follow their orders. You can’t have the freedom to be yourself and meekly fit in at the same time.

    6. If you make your work your life, you’re making your life into hard work. Like most people,I confused myself by looking at people like artists and musicians whose life’s “work” fills their time. That isn’t work. It’s who they are. Unless you have some overwhelming passion that also happens to allow you to earn a living doing it, always remember that work should be a means to an end: living an enjoyable life. Spend as little time on the means as possible consistent with achieving the end. Only idiots live to work.

    7. The quickest and simplest way to wreck any relationship is to listen to gossip. The worst way to spend your time is spreading more. People who spread gossip are the plague-carriers of our day. Cockroaches are clean, kindly creatures in comparison.

    8. Trying to please other people is largely a futile activity. Everyone will be mad at you sometime. Most of the people you deal with will dislike, disparage, belittle, or ignore what you say or do most of the time. Besides, you can never really know what others do want, so a good deal of whatever you do in that regard will go to waste. Be comforted. Those who love you will probably love you regardless, and they are the ones whose opinions are worth caring about. The rest aren’t worth five minutes of thought between them.

    9. Every winner is destined to be a loser in due course. It’s great to be up on the winner’s podium. Just don’t imagine you can stay there for ever. Worst of all is being determined to do so, by any means available.

10.You can rarely, if ever, please, placate, change, or mollify an asshole. The best thing you can do is stay away from every one you encounter. Being an asshole is a contagious disease. The more time you spend around one, the more likely you are to catch it and become one too.

    11. Everything takes twiceas long as you plan for and produces results about half as good as you hoped. There’s no reason to be downhearted about this. Just allow for it and move on.

    12. People are oddly consistent.Liars usually tell lies. Cheaters cheat whenever it suits them. A person who confides in you has usually confided in several others first—but not got the response they wanted. A loyal friend will stay loyal under enormous amounts of thoughtless abuse.

13.However hard you try, you can’t avoid being yourself.Who else could you be? You can act and pretend, but the person acting and pretending is still you. And if you won’t accept yourself—and do the best you can with what you have—who then has any obligation to accept you?

    14. When it comes to blatant lies, there are none more egregious than budget figures.Time spent agonizing over them is time wasted. Even if (miracle of miracles!) yours are honest and accurate, no one else will have been so foolish.

    15. The loudest noise in the world is the sound of people whining.Don’t add to it.

    1. It's a surprise party.

像这种的 party 就称为 surprise party(注意可不是 surprising party)。

    2. That's a real eye-opening experience.

That building really opened my eye.

    3. Who is going to organize the birthday party next time?

    4. I bought a cake about this big!

I bought a cake about this big! 说 I bought a cake like this big.

I have a brother about this tall.

    1. I am turning 23 tomorrow.

所以同样这句话如果你说:I will become 23 tomorrow.

    2. She is in her birthday suit.

    3. You are a party pooper.

    1. 公司名称 (the name of company)
    4. 公司地址 (the address of your company)
(E-mail address)

    MING YING ENGLISH SCHOOL

    Harry Chen
    Lector

    Tel: 0311-6081514 6075767
    Fax: 0311-6081514
    E-mail: 5663@sohu.com
No. 26, Zhongshan East Road, Shijiazhuang City
    Hebei Province, 050000, P.R.China
    Web site: www.sjzmingying.com

    Room ** No. ** *** Road (Street), *** City
    **** Province ******(邮编)
    ***** (country)

South Tianmen, Huai South Road.

  2. P.f.(pour felicitation):

  3. P.c.(pour condoleance):

  5. P.P.c.(pour prendre conge):

  6. P.f.n.a.(pour feliciter lenouvel an):意即恭贺新禧。

  7. N.b.(nota bene):

It’s Tea Time on the Train!

Train tea is supposed to be very bad. There was a passenger going on a train, and it was tea time. A boy was coming around with a cart and asked, “Would you like to have a cup of tea, sir?”

The passenger said, “Ah, yes. I’ll have a cup.”

The boy said, “With or without milk?”

And the passenger said, “With milk, and sugar as well, but no tea!”

Joke of Today

Beneficial lesson

In England nobody under the age of eighteen is allowed to drink in a public bar.

Mr. Thompson used to go to a bar near his house quite often, but he never took his son,Tom,because he was too young. Then when Tom had his eighteenth birthday, Mr.Thompson took him to his usual bar for the first time. They drank for half an hour, and then Mr.Thompson said to his son,“Now, Tom,I want to teach you a useful lesson. You must always be careful not to drink too much. And how do you know when you've had enough? Well, I'll tell you.Do you see those two lights at the end of the bar? When they seem to have become four, you've had enough and should go home.”

“But, Dad,” said Tom,“I can only see one light at the end of the bar.”
